Locatelli – Trio Sonatas (1736)

Locatelli – not the Italian footballer, and not the Michelin starred Locanda Locatelli in Seymour Street, but Pietro Locatelli – a violinist born in the beautiful and hilly city of Bergamo, near Milan and the Italian Lakes.

A composer of sonatas and concerti, he travelled greatly, through Mantua, Venice, Munich, Dresden, Berlin, Frankfurt and Kassel, before settling down in the publishing centre of Europe – Amsterdam.

His works are often virtuosic, and were rediscovered by Paganini, who composed similarly virtuosic works for violin.

Question: How many performers in a Trio sonata…?
