Walton – Façade (1923/1951)

Right – for today, take the poems of Dame Edith Sitwell, add an unusual instrumental accompaniment by William Walton, and you get Façade!

The most popular part is Popular Song, but there’s Old Sir Faulk, a ‘Jodelling Song’ – they’re all pretty short, mostly no more than a minute – and have a near-sprechgesang approach.
