Hindemith – Flute Sonata (1936)

Paul Hindemith was a 20th Century composer and music theorist, writing notable guides on composition.

He was rooted in Baroque and Classical forms, but his harmonic language is 20th century – chromatic, using the 12-tone serialism – he painted his music with a wide range of colours.

His 1936 Flute Sonata is recognised as one of the great flute sonatas, alongside that by Poulenc:
