Born in Beauvais, Eustache du Caurroy worked for the French Royal Courts of Charles IX, Henri III, and Henri IV as maître de chapelle.
Today’s choice was first performed at the latter’s funeral and then for many years was the official requiem sung at funerals of French monarchs.
