This is a four-voice partsong first published in 1796 as part of Haydn’s collection of 13 partsongs ‘Aus des Ramlers Lyrischer Blumenlese’. It is full of Haydn’s humour and wit as well as his attention to detail, with imitation across parts.
The lyrics roughly translate to “Oh wonderful harmony, what he wants, she wants too. He likes to carouse, and so does she, he likes to play, and so does she, he likes counting ducats, and makes the great Lord, that is also their use. Oh wonderful harmony, what he wants, she wants too.”
