Mozart – Quintet for Piano and Winds in E♭ major K452 (1784)

1784 is a fairly busy year for the 28 year old Mozart – alongside piano concertos 14 to 17 (the latter performed by Pleyel), he also found time to write a quintet for five unusual instruments – each had a connection with : piano, oboe, clarinet, horn and bassoon.

It was composed on 30 March, and premiered two days later (standard Mozart). It’s in three movements, and influenced Beethoven’s setting for the same instruments composed in 1796.
