Brahms – Ach, arme Welt, Op. 110 no.2 (1890)

Composed in 1889, today’s choice is the second of three motets composed alongside the set of three Fest- und Gedenksprüche motets, and premiered in Cologne in 1890.

Brahms explores themes of sorrow and reflection through lyrical melodies, rich harmonies, and word-painting. The solo line is deeply expressive.
