Tomaso Albinoni (1671-1751) was an Italian Baroque composer and violinist, best known for his instrumental music, particularly his concertos and sonatas. Born in Venice, Albinoni was a contemporary of Vivaldi and was highly regarded for his melodic inventiveness and elegant style.
Though he composed a significant amount of operatic and vocal music, much of it has been lost, leaving his instrumental works as his lasting legacy.
He is most famous for the ‘Adagio in G minor’, which is by Remo Giazotto and allegedly based on a chord pattern or bass line by Albinoni.
