The mid 1800s happened to see Felix Mendelssohn’s Piano Trio in D minor Op.49 in 1839, and then in 1846 his sister’s own Piano Trio in D minor (today’s choice).
The same year saw the Piano Trio in G minor by Clara Schumann – friend of the Mendelssohns – and then her husband’s Piano Trio in D minor Op.63 a year later.
They make for an interesting group for compare and contrast.
