Pounds – Symphony No.3 (2021)

Adam Pounds (born 25 November 1954) is a British composer and conductor, based primarily in Cambridge.

Born in Walthamstow, London, Pounds was educated at William Morris High School, the London College of Music, and Goldsmiths’ College, later completing a Master’s degree in Music Education at Trinity Hall, Cambridge.

His studies included composition, oboe, guitar, and conducting, and he received private composition tuition from Sir Lennox Berkeley after winning the Lillian Hunt Memorial Prize.

His Symphony No.3 was written as a response to the COVID-19 national lockdowns in 2020 and 2021. Pounds described the work as a reflection of the “sadness, humour, determination and defiance” experienced during that period.
