Daser – Pater Noster

Ludwig Daser (c. 1526–1589), a German composer who served in Munich and Stuttgart.

Today’s choice forms the basis for his Missa Pater noster is a 16th-century,, four-voice polyphonic Mass setting based on the Lord’s Prayer. Known for its grand, “monumental” style, this sacred work combines complex polyphony with traditional plainchant.  It is considered one of his last and most enigmatic works, surviving in a 1565 Munich choirbook.
